Step 5: Gel Coating |
Once the taping has been finished, Gel Coating can start. The Gel Coater uses an airless sprayer and applies an even coat to the Mold. Each Coat dries for at least 1 hr. The first layer of taping will then be removed to expose the next layer to be Gel Coated. Both top and bottom Molds will be painted at the same time. This process continues until all layers of tape have been removed and all of the exposed Mold has been coated. Each layer dries thoroughly to insure proper adhesion and thickness. Here the Gel Coater will define how he blends colors together and creates splashes. While there are many colors to choose from, each coat is applied to the boat the same way. With an assortment of colors to choose from, it makes designing a boat that much more exciting. |
