step 3: wax the mold |
Once production starts on your new boat, the Mold for your particular size boat will be waxed. While the mold is being waxed and checked for smoothness, the Gel Coater examines the color rendering generated by the Design team. His thought process involves a lot more than making your boat become the design you intended. Ever feel the sides of an ADVANTAGE Boat? That smoothness comes from the waxing of the Mold itself. Waxing is a critical stage in the boat production process. If this step was ignored, the finished fiberglass body would be extremely hard to get out of the mold, and the body finish would lose all of its smoothness. Sit back and relax, your boat is on its way. At this stage of the process, your boat will become the start of what is called Gel Coating. Gel Coat is a form of paint that is applied and will adhere to the fiberglass mesh that will be installed in a step further into the production. |
